I got tired of manually having to manage Rec.709 and other color spaces too because Vegas made a mess of that. But when I started to do complex shows, it had to go. I loved being able to throw anything on the timeline anywhere I wanted. So I had to keep Vegas on 2 machines since the 32 and 64 bit versions needed different QT versions. Back then there were some issues with QT versions between the 32 and 64bit versions of the product. It also could not handle doing it's own quicktime translations, so you were at the mercy of what Apple was doing in it's version of quicktime. How in the heck can you tout yourself as a product to cut big shows, when your product can't comply with federal broadcast standards? It couldn't even do OPEN captions. How could it cut big shows when a round-trip workflow simply didn't exist in the product? I eventually had to leave because as of version 8, it had no support for closed captions. But as soon as you need to move sound out to someone else, or you need to round-trip for VFX or color work, or stabilization or anything Vegas can't do, you're hosed.īack when Ver.7 was released Vegas was touting itself in magazines talking about how it could cut big shows. If you never have to leave it, you're great. Until you actually have to work with other people.
